With so much happening over the next 2 weeks with the CHICKENS visiting and EASTER celebrations we have decided to postpone our Harmony Day celebrations. See the flyer below for new dates and please get in touch with staff if you're interested in bringing in music, stories, want to help cook or have other ideas to contribute to celebrating our diversity.
If you're looking for something to do tomorrow this looks like fun.
At Green Gables, the majority of our families come from households where a language other than English is spoken at home either exclusively or as well as English.
A common area of concern expressed by a number of these families is whether or not their children will retain abilities in their parents native language.
This conference is designed for both parents and educators.
Let us know if you would like to attend with a Green Gables staff-member.
We're celebrating Harmony Day this coming week at Green Gables with some special group times using the great resources provided by the Federal Government. Take a look at the official Harmony Day website (link below) - it's an awesome initiative that really fits well with the diverse cultures we are lucky to have at Green Gables.
"The continuing message for Harmony Day in 2012 is that Everyone Belongs, which means all Australians are a welcome part of our country, regardless of their background. It's a time to reflect on where Australia has come from, recognising the traditional owners of this land. It's also about community participation, inclusiveness and respect – celebrating the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live." (www.harmony.gov.au)
Don't hesitate to speak with the teachers if you would like to get involved or have an idea for an activity for the children to enjoy.
